COVID-19 Protocols

Please note that the Board of Directors have revised the SLOA COVID protocols and mask policy beginning June 1st, 2021. The assignors will be in contact with the tournament directors and the SLOA will follow the COVID protocols of each event. If a tournament does not require you to wear a mask, then you do not have to wear one.

To combat the spread of COVID-19, the following protocols have been put in place for all SLOA members participating in the 2021 Spring season.

Wear a black mask or gaiter during the course of your assigned games unless officiating on the field. This includes:

  • From the parking lot to the field.
  • During timeouts, halftime, and between quarters.
  • Speaking with coaches before games.
  • Speaking with players and checking sticks before games.

Bring a small sanitizer with you and keep it in your pocket or jacket.

The Referee will meet with coaches prior to the game while the remainder of the crew will socially distance.

  • Coaches may only send out one captain for the coin toss.

Follow the faceoff mechanics listed in the 2021 NCAA and NFHS rules with the additional mechanics. During the faceoff:

  • Place the ball down while players are still standing apart.
  • Move back and give the “Down” command.
  • DO NOT physically adjust players or sticks. Verbalize any shifts that need to be made for a legal faceoff.
  • If a player does not properly adjust after verbal instruction, proceed with a faceoff violation.
